Metro Reduced Fare Permit for Seniors

About the Metro Reduced Fare Permit

Missouri residents age 65 and over have the privilege of riding the MetroLink and MetroBus for a reduced fare of approximately half the price of a regular ticket. However, starting January 1, 2009, every senior wanting to take advantage of this discount will need a special Metro Reduced Fare Permit. The new Reduced Fare Permit is being introduced to provide added convenience and minimize confusion for seniors and for Metro transit operators and fare inspectors.

Requirements

The new Metro Reduced Fare Permit will be available to any Missouri Senior age 65 and older. Because a photo is taken as part of the process to generate the Permit, seniors must apply in person. They will need to present a government-issued picture identification card which verifies their age. Drivers License, State ID card, Alien Registration Card or Passport are all acceptable forms of ID. The new Metro Reduced Fare Permit will be generated immediately on-site so seniors will receive their card at the time they sign up. The entire process should take just a few minutes. Beginning January 1, 2009, seniors age 65 and older will simply need to show their Metro Reduced Fare Permit as proof of their eligibility to ride the Metro System for the reduced fare.

Making it Easy for Seniors to Obtain

Metro is committed to making it as easy as possible for seniors to obtain their Reduced Fare Permit. To that end, the Agency is reaching out to senior service agencies, retirement communities and other locations frequented by seniors to secure locations throughout the community where we can host sign-up events. With your help, we are confident that regular riders of the system will have ample opportunity to obtain the new Metro Reduced Fare Permit before the end of this year. With today’s high gas prices, it’s also possible that many other seniors who haven’t traditionally been Metro riders may take advantage of the opportunity to secure the new permit so they, too, can take advantage of the reduced fare to travel throughout the region.

Beginning the week of August 11th and continuing through December, Metro staff members hope to host dozens of sign up events in the communities Metro serves. Effective August 11th, seniors also can sign up for the card any day between 8:30 am and 5 pm at the Downtown MetroRide Store located at 701 Convention Plaza, St. Louis Missouri 63101 at the corner of 7th and Washington (inside America’s Center at the Convention Center MetroLink Station).

Note: Those 65 and over living in Madison County and selected townships in St. Clair County ride Metro for free with their Senior Pass, thanks to special transit funding provided by the State of Illinois.

Note:  Please continue to check this listing as more sign-up event locations are being added on a daily basis.
